Silicon Carbide (SiC) Properties and Appliions
Silicon carbide is a hard covalently bonded material predominantly produced by the carbothermal reduction of silica (typically using the Acheson process). Several commercial grades of silicon carbide exist such as nitride bonded, sintered, reaction bonded, SiAlON bonded and clay bonded.
Basic Parameters of Silicon Carbide (SiC)
Silicon carbide crystallizes in numerous (more than 200 ) different modifiions (polylypes). The most important are: cubic unit cell: 3C-SiC (cubic unit cell, zincblende); 2H-SiC; 4H-SiC; 6H-SiC (hexagonal unit cell, wurtzile ); 15R-SiC (rhoohedral unit cell).-SiC (rhoohedral unit cell).
